If your child’s car seat or restraint is incorrectly fitted, the ‘Check it Fits’ experts will advise on how to fix the problem, demonstrate how to fit the restraint correctly and answer any queries participants might have to avoid potential serious or fatal injury in the event of a collision.Top Tips for Parents:· It is now EU law that all children must travel in a child seat, booster seat or booster cushion. The golden rule for choosing a child car seat is making sure it is suitable for your child’s weight, height and age and that it conforms to the latest EU safety regulations (look for the ‘E’ mark).· Do not use age exclusively as a guide while picking a car seat, as every child is different.· When buying a child car seat, make sure you go to a retailer who can show you how to fit it in your car. If the child car seat will be used in more than one car, make sure it’s compatible with additional cars as well.· Avoid using a second-hand child car seat or restraint unless you know its history. It may have been damaged in a previous collision, and although the damage may not be visible, it won’t provide the same level of protection for your child.· Don’t move your child from a rearward-facing child car seat to a forward-facing child car seat too soon. If you’re unsure, always consult with your retailer before you buy your next child car seat. By Dialogo August 27, 2009 BOGOTA (AP) 8-22-2009 — Colombian police have captured a guerrilla suspected of killing a U.S. military contractor and a Colombian soldier after their surveillance plane crashed in the jungle in 2003, authorities said Saturday. Judicial police director Luis Ramirez alleged that Jose Armando Cadena Cabrera, who went by the nom de guerre “Bronco,” was personally responsible for the two killings and was part of a band of rebels that kidnapped three other Americans who were on the plane. “The entire crew survived the plane crash and ‘Bronco’ killed the U.S. citizen Thomas John Janis and the soldier Luis Alcides Cruz, who refused to be kidnapped,” Gen. Ramirez said in a phone interview. The other three Northrop Grumman Corp. contractors on the plane — Marc Gonsalves, Thomas Howes and Keith Stansell — wrote in a book this year that a guerrilla named Sonia told them she killed Cruz and Janis, who was from Montgomery, Alabama. Ramirez said authorities have begun a formal investigation of Cadena Cabrera on suspicion of murder, kidnapping and criminal conspiracy. Cadena Cabrera was captured in the capital, apparently while conducting intelligence work for the Revolutionary Armed Forces of Colombia, or FARC. Gonsalves, Howes and Stansell spent more than five years in FARC captivity after the Feb. 13, 2003, crash. They were rescued in July 2008 by a Colombian military operation that also freed 12 other high-profile hostages, including former presidential candidate Ingrid Betancourt.
Facebook Twitter Google+ In 2010, Adrian Autry packed his things in Blacksburg, Va., and headed to Dayton. Previously an assistant with Virginia Tech, he was on his way to becoming an associate head coach with the Flyers before a job opened up at Syracuse. Three years later, Autry will make his return to Virginia Tech, still as an assistant coach with the Orange. Things have changed — Seth Greenberg, the head coach he worked under at VT, is now an analyst for ESPN and most of the players he coached have graduated. SU head coach Jim Boeheim doesn’t think Autry can give him any particularly unique insight that the team would otherwise be unable to acquire.“I don’t think that really makes any difference,” Boeheim said during the Atlantic Coast Conference coaches’ teleconference on Monday. No. 2 Syracuse has gone about scouting the Hokies like it would any other team. The Orange has watched about 8-10 games and picked up some of VT’s tendencies from the tape and other highlights“You see what they can do,” Boeheim said. “I don’t think any other knowledge is that effective.”AdvertisementThis is placeholder textAutry was at Virginia Tech when forward Jarell Eddie was recruited, but he doesn’t have ties to any other Hokie. He’s been with SU for too long now.And that’s been just fine for Boeheim. Autry’s the latest in a long line of assistant coaches with ties to the program and he brings enough to the staff that it doesn’t matter if he doesn’t hold any almighty secrets to VT basketball.“Adrian’s done an unbelievable job here,” Boeheim said. “He’s really been good for us and I really just can’t say enough about what he’s done in terms of bringing his ability to our program. “But I don’t think you gain any knowledge that you can’t gain from watching teams play and seeing what they do.” Comments Published on January 6, 2014 at 3:28 pm Contact David: [email protected] | @DBWilson2
