First Responders to get CDEMA training

In more laymen’s terms the groups of men and women will be exposed to what Director of the DDME, Dr. Virginia Clerveaux calls a new wave of understanding how to best cope with emergencies as first responders. When this training, which runs over three days and is set for a tomorrow start at the Felix Morely Community Center in Five Cays, is all done the responders will be improved when it comes to dealing with structural and commercial fires, cruise ship, aircraft and vehicular transportation accidents, search missions and rescue operations, oil spills and HAZMAT incidents, mass events such as celebrations, parades, concerts and public rallies, mass shelter operations and even visits by famous dignitaries. It is double duty for CDEMA facilitators, General Earl Arthurs and Joanne Parsed who today wrapped up Disaster Recovery training, which was being held at the Sands Resort. This second workshop opens tomorrow morning. Members of The Ministry of Education attend ribbon cutting for phase 1

Akierra Missick and members from the Department of Sports cut the ribbon to officially open phase 1 of the South Caicos Sports and recreational center.Phase 1’s main feature is the green fitness park that includes the first outdoor gym area in the Turks and Caicos Islands. The facility consists of a wide variety of cardio and resistance equipment to help engage and inspire exercisers to push themselves further. The equipment is geared to all fitness levels. It will meet the needs of those who may be improving their level of fitness, wanting to lose weight, recovering from illness or injury or those maximizing their sporting performance. The new addition also consist of canteen and office block.Also in place are newly resurfaced courts with multi-sport markings. This means that basketball, tennis, netball, and volleyball players, can now play their sports on a smooth new surface bounded by a heavy duty grid mesh fence.Commenting at the opening, Hon. Missick noted with excitement that; “This park will result in healthier families as many activities young people are engaged in  take place indoors and are sedentary. This green fitness park will enhance family and community relationships and result in stronger and healthier families and young people.”Mr. Camiko Lewis, the island Sports Officer will offer a range of fitness classes and exercise sessions to the community of South Caicos in the New Year. He also added that; “The facility with the upgrades offers many opportunities not only for physical activate, but also cohesion and engagement. I also see this as a peaceful refuge and an ideal location for picnics in the summer.”The Ministry extends thanks to everyone involved in bringing this project to fruition. Police searching for suspects in shooting and armed robbery

The man attempted to flee from his home and was shot. The suspects then fled on foot. The male was accosted by the officers and searched. During the search of the male a Smith and Wesson Pistol with 17 rounds of ammunition was found in his possession.The male who is on bail for armed robbery and wearing an electronically monitoring device was subsequently arrested.Suspect arrested for drug possessionConsistent with the Commissioner’s Policing Priorities for 2017, Police took a man into custody following the seizure of a quantity of dangerous drugs on Sunday 10th September 2017.According to reports, around 10:00am, officers assigned to the Mobile Division actingon information conducted a search of a home of a male located at Derby Road, Yellow Elder, where they uncovered a quantity of marijuana. Fire breaks out at ESIs medicine room in Sealdah none injured

first_imgKolkata: Three fire incident across the city triggered tension on Thursday and Friday.On Thursday night, a fire broke out at the service dispensary room (medicine room) of ESI Hospital in Sealdah. Another fire broke out at an empty Puja pandal at Survey Park. In another incident of fire, several shanties were gutted on Thursday evening in Dum Dum Cantonment area. No one got hurt in any of these incidents. According to the police, on Thursday around 10:15 pm, some staff of ESI Hospital saw smoke billowing out of the medicine room. The hospital super, police and fire brigade were immediately informed. Due to the fire, several medicines got damaged. A refrigerator where medicines used to be preserved also got damaged. Sources informed that the fire may have occurred due to some electrical disorder. In another incident on Thursday, several shanties were gutted near wireless math area at Dum Dum Cantonment. Four fire tenders doused the flames within a short period of time. Some residents of those shanties felt ill due to smoke but no one sustained burn injuries. Police informed that the Puja pandal of Trikon Park Puja committee was getting dismantled. Around 12 pm while untying ropes from bamboos, a worker noticed flames close to him. He immediately warned others and all of them maintained safe distance. Locals informed police and fire brigade. Two fire tenders were pressend into action to control the fire. Though the flames did not spread, smoke from the inflammable materials was quite dense. No injury was, however, reported in the fire. The cause of fire was not confirmed but it is suspected that somehow a spark came in touch with the straw which was used to make the pandal.last_img read more
