Some people have no clue what it is, and some know exactly what they are looking at.” Miyata said it was featured in the auto show under the category of “integrated performance vehicle.” “We tried to take the best attributes out of all different types of vehicles and put it all into one,” said Miyata, a self-described lifelong “gearhead” who loves working with engines. Miyata, 49, and Martino, 29, were both engineers who met seven years ago at Boeing Co. in the San Fernando Valley, where they specialized in laser systems. The Kamikaze is a prototype they plan to develop further and sell for about $80,000 under the Martino Motor Co. name. The company Web site is martinomotorcompany.com. Miyata said although the Kamikaze hasn’t been tested for maximum acceleration, he was expecting a zero-to-60-mph time of less than three seconds. WESTLAKE VILLAGE – When Marc Martino takes his Kamikaze trike out for a spin around his home here, people follow him and often gather when he stops, asking “What the heck is that?” The high-performance vehicle created by Martino with the help of his friend, Gary Miyata of Simi Valley, has also been drawing crowds at the Los Angeles Auto Show, where it is on display through today in the Convention Center’s Kentia Hall. Martino said his Kamikaze is designed for fast acceleration – it weighs just 1,000 pounds but has 400 horsepower from a Suzuki Hayabusa engine. “It has the acceleration and power of the best motorcycles, but it brakes quicker and corners better,” said Martino, pointing out that it has one automobile tire in the back and two in the front for stability and traction. “We’re combining the best attributes of motorcycles and race cars.” last_img read more

first_imgSEAN MAC CUMHAILLS CLUB NOTES 01/10/12RESULTS.SENIORS. We travelled to St Michaels for our first round championship match. Mac Cumhaills started brightly and took an early 1-01 lead thanks to a Stephen O Reilly goal. It was nip and tuck for most of the half with St Michaels scoring a goal before half time. Mac Cumhaills came back them again with 2 points to finish the half one point down. The second half showed why St Michaels are one of the favourites for the championship. Playing with a strong breeze, they kicked over some great long range points. The contest was over at this stage, with St Michaels running out comfortable winners. Mac Cumhaills never gave up till the final whistle, which gives us hope for the return leg next Sat evening. RESERVES. Our reserves fielded a very under strength team in their championship opener.
