Exclusive – Ramsey can be Arsenal’s Lampard, says former Gunners boss

first_imgFormer Arsenal manager George Graham has hailed Aaron Ramsey’s attacking transformation, saying the Welshman has become a talismanic player for the Gunners.A lot was expected from the youngster following his £5m move to the Emirates Stadium from Cardiff as a 17-year-old, only for his early Arsenal career to be stunted by ongoing injury problems, including a horrific leg break against Stoke in 2010.Now 23, Ramsey has gone from strength to strength since and emerged as a key member of Arsene Wenger’s squad last season, scoring 16 Premier League goals and netting the winner in the FA Cup final, ending the club’s nine-year wait for silverware. The midfielder has begun the new campaign in fine style too, scoring in an emphatic Community Shield victory over Manchester City last week and finding the net once again to seal a 2-1 win over Crystal Palace on the opening day of the top flight season. And Graham – likening the Gunners star to Frank Lampard during his prolific period at Chelsea – believes Ramsey has become one of the first names on Wenger’s weekly team-sheet.“Ramsey is the one midfield player who wants to get beyond the rest of his team-mates and into the box,” the Scot told talkSPORT on Call Collymore.“The way he plays is similar to the way Frank Lampard played for years at Chelsea.“He’s developed tremendously as a player and he should be the one who is picked for Arsene Wenger’s starting 11 every week, without fail.”last_img read more
