Big 12 power rankings: Week 3

first_imgPhoto Attribution: USATSIPhoto Attribution: USATSIIt’s been a while since I even looked at the Big 12 much less ranked it but I thought with OSU on a bye and not much else going on, now would be a good time to dive in to some Big 12 power rankings.Let’s get to work…1a. Baylor — I know they haven’t played anybody, trust me, I get it. But Baylor’s offense has looked as elite as it’s ever looked, even when Bob was running the show two years ago. I’m still curious to see if they’ve upgraded their offense to “omg, Washington State thinks your defense is horrendous” to “that’ll get it down in the Big 12!” If they have, then they’ll finish either first or second in Big 12 play.1b. Oklahoma State — OSU has done what it needed to do in the first three games — it’s certainly an odd thing to play your schedule, in terms of difficulty, backwards to start the season. I’ve been impressed by every facet so far though (besides maybe the kicking game) and I think at Morgantown will be telling in terms of how dominant this team will be in conference play.3. Team speed — Question: if a series of events isn’t all that good but they happen really, really fast…does that make them any better? Answer: we might find out this year in the Big 12. Thus far only the MWC and Pac-12 have been faster and the Big 12 has three of the 11 fastest teams in the country.4. Blake Bell — I admit I didn’t know whether or not he had it in him. The dude had completed something like 13 career passes coming into the Tulsa game so forgive me for being skeptical but it’s clear he’s the guy in Norman. While we’re here, how bad have Mike Gundy and Bob Stoops been in the last few years at picking starting QBs? A combined $7.5 million and you can’t figure out which guy can throw and run better than the other one?5. Iowa State’s uniforms — I thought they were spectacular. I would lose my mind if OSU ever threw it back to the days of Bob Fenimore but kept the new logo on its pants like ISU did…that would be fantastic.100. The QB merry-go-round — Big 12 teams have used 21 QBs…and counting.982. Mack Brown — The end is nigh for Mr. Brown in Austin. If you’re looking for the comments section, it has moved to our forum, The Chamber.
